Hunts Sailing Club hosted the Eastern Traveller Toppers on 21 June. The forecast was for light winds, but in true Hunts fashion the fleet was greeted with a good but shifty wind. With 37 entries, including 14 from the host club, the day was set for some good racing.

The first race was away at the second attempt, but under an I flag. The lead was taken up quickly by Jordan Rumsby, with the rest of the fleet some distance behind. Jordan comfortably held his lead to win the first race with James Wilson and Alex Alcock in 2nd and 3rd respectively.

The second race was equally exciting with both Jordan and Alex being caught out by the I flag. The lead changed an number of times, but Nick Adams securing a good win.

Going into the final race there were a number of combinations which could see the overall lead go to a number of sailors. The first 6 boats broke away with places swapping frequently. Nick proved to have the edge, which would give him first overall, going into the last mark. Tacking to the line, the wind shifted and James Wilson got to the line 2 seconds ahead.

While it was great to see the excellent racing at the front of the fleet, it was great to see 13 helms from Hunts sailing in their first open. Some retired during the day, but all enjoyed their day and proved the success of ‘Sailing for Fun’. Overall Results: 1st James Wilson; 2nd Nick Adams; 3rd Jordan Rumsby. First girl was Georgina Povall (7th) and first Hunts Alex Alcock (6th).
