15 visitors joined 3 home boats at Hunts SC on 29th April. At the beginning of the day the weather conditions were overcast with a force 2/3 blowing from the north east. The race officer set a course which was challenging for the competitors as they had to judge the wind bends on both beats. The same course was used throughout the day. The first race saw the boats that started at the pin end reaching the first mark in the lead as those who had gone right up the first beat to approach the mark on starboard did not allow for the wind bend. This allowed those approaching on port to pass clearly in front. The first boat round was that of John Coppenhall closely followed by Alan Bennett. They were followed by another group of boats down the next leg. On the first run Mark Coppenhall started at the back of this group but went out to the right and over took most of them to move into 3rd. At the end of the first round Bennett had taken the lead followed by Mark. These 2 held these positions to the end although Mark was only half a boat length behind at the finish. Annette Walter finished third closely followed by Alex Alcock who had moved up to that position on the last beat. Alex had borrowed Ian’s boat and it was the first time in the boat, so I think the rest of us will have to watch out in the future. He did admit that if there had been a bit more wind he would have been struggling. The second race saw Mark Coppenhall take the lead early on which he held to the end with Bennett and John Coppenhall battling for second and third. 4th place this time went to Tristan Cooper. The third race saw Bennett take an early lead which he held to the end. The next 7 boats were close together with the places changing throughout the first 2 rounds 2nd in this race was Dave Harris and Walter was again third with Roger Lemon in 4th. Thanks to Richard Christmas and his crew for setting good courses throughout the day.
